Methane at Anchorage landfill could produce electricity for 2,500 homes 

From James Halpin at the Anchorage Daily News: The way the city sees it, they’re burning away perfectly good energy over at the Anchorage Regional Landfill. Millions of tons of rotting rubbish in the massive pit near Eagle River create nearly 2 million cubic feet of landfill gas a day. Nearly half of it is methane, which could be converted to an estimated 2.5 and 3 megawatts of electricity — enough, city officials say, to power 2,500 homes. A new request for proposals put out by the city is seeking bidders to undertake the project. Read more
