Just in time for the new school year, AK EnergySmart is providing an array of free curriculum resources on the newly designed website.
Educators can view and download lesson plans (for free!) designed to give Alaskan youth an understanding of the high economic and environmental costs of power generation and the importance of conserving energy at home and school.
Lesson plans are broken down into K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12, and the website also includes adult education materials. The new site makes it easier for teachers and educators to search for the right type of curriculum for their students by grade level and topic.
The Power Pledge Challenge (PPC) is kicking off with the new website. In the PPC, students receive a presentation from one of the partners about electricity use and how to calculate the costs of using different appliances. The students then go online to pledge to reduce their energy use. Teachers can sign up now for a presentation and can earn points towards prizes throughout the school year! All this and more is on the new AK EnergySmart website.
