This second installment in REAP’s 2026 Spring Energy Speaker Series, “Grid to Table: Alaska’s Food/Energy Nexus,” will center on our food systems, the role energy plays in them, and what Alaska’s energy trends mean for our future food security. Whether you’re a policymaker, community leader, or simply interested in the future of Alaska, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn, ask questions, and be part of the conversation shaping the state’s path forward. Speakers will cover topics ranging from food policy to hydroponics to agrovoltaics and more. We hope you will join us for this timely and engaging discussion about the connection between the food we eat and the energy we use!

Food security is a significant public health concern in Alaska, where more than 13% of households are food insecure. This issue is particularly pronounced in areas where rising energy prices contribute to higher costs for locally-sourced food and where dependence on external supply chains for non-subsistence foods leave our communities vulnerable to market volatility.

Our state’s energy and food systems are deeply intertwined—and increasingly vulnerable. In light of all this, REAP is honored to host a timely public conversation with local experts exploring the nexus of energy and food security in Alaska at the Anchorage Museum beginning at 6pm on Thursday, April 23rd.
