REAP has also been a strong advocate for energy efficiency and home weatherization programs over the years.
REAP advocacy helped spur the state legislature to appropriate $640 million between 2008 and 2015 to fund the state’s low-income weatherization and home energy efficiency rebate programs. So far, those programs have helped more than 50,000 Alaskan homes become more energy efficient, with an average heating cost savings per household of about thirty percent. The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), which administers the programs, estimates those collective home improvements are saving the equivalent of about 30 million gallons of heating oil every year.
