A Letter From Chris Rose, REAP’s Founder and Executive Director

Dear REAP Community,

After more than 20 years as the Executive Director of Renewable Energy Alaska Project, I have decided to retire effective September 1, 2025 to pursue other interests.

What started out as an idea in my living room 23 years ago continues to grow, and I could not have asked for a more rewarding way to spend this part of my career. Working with the REAP staff and board, organizational members, partners and supporters, as well as communities across Alaska, has been an honor and privilege of a lifetime. Over the last two decades, REAP has transformed and expanded the conversation about clean energy in Alaska. We’ve educated the public about why energy is so essential to everything we do in our lives, and the implications of the energy decisions we all make every day. We’ve developed ground-breaking legislation, and worked with policy makers to get it passed. We’ve fostered the planning and workforce capacity to build, operate, maintain and optimize clean energy projects. And we’ve worked in schools across this enormous state to teach children about where energy comes from through science and math, building an energy literate populace for the future.

I’m confident that REAP will continue to do all of these things, and more. The organization has a growing team of talented and passionate professionals who I am very proud to work with, and I’m certain they will continue to lead the energy transition in Alaska. REAP’s dedicated Board of Directors is searching for REAP’s new leader, with the guidance of a succession plan and the expert assistance of The Foraker Group. The organization’s goal is to hire a new Executive Director by July 1, so there will be plenty of opportunity for me to overlap with them. Our diverse group of members, donors and funders will continue to support our work, and I hope you will, too.

Thank you all for your support of REAP. Without you, we would not have accomplished what we have, or continue to advance the development of Alaska’s local, stably-priced, clean, inexhaustible energy resources.

Best,
Chris
