Free training for schools

We provide free teacher trainings to schools and school districts. Trainings range from 30-minute workshops on specific topics to two-day classes where participants earn one continuing education credit. 

I am glad I have this information and can now present in simple form to my kindergarten students the possibilities in using energy efficiency and talking about what is around Kongiganak!

Example Classes & Topics

ED 580: Energy Literacy in K-12 Classrooms

This one-credit course provides an overview of energy from gas, oil, diesel, wind, hydro, geo, solar, etc. It introduces the concepts of energy literacy and how they can be taught in K-12 classrooms using hands-on activities from AKEnergySmart, Wind for Schools, NEED and other sources. This class typically meets in-person in a local community on a Friday evening and all day Saturday, with two distance classes later in the semester.

  • AKEnergySmart hands-on activities & discussions
  • Recycling & Energy
  • Green Schools
  • Renewable energy in Alaska
  • Wind for Schools hands-on activities & discussions
  • Tours of power plants and/or energy efficient buildings (location-specific)
