Winners have been selected for the tenth annual Power Pledge Challenge!

State Winner

Lisa Curtis’s 3rd/4th grade class at Talkeetna Elementary is this year’s statewide winner of the Power Pledge Challenge (PPC)! More than 1,200 Kindergarten through twelfth grade students from 20 schools in eight regions around the state participated in the tenth annual PPC, an initiative from AK EnergySmart aimed at helping youth better understand energy use.

Participating classrooms received in-person or virtual outreach from REAP educators and/or utility partners, using a lesson from AK EnergySmart, as well as electricity monitors upon request. This semester-long, project-based PPC increased students’ energy literacy while completing challenges that benefit their families, classrooms, and schools.

Curtis is getting $2,000 worth of energy education kits and supplies from NEED.org, as well as a pizza party and tour of a solar farm. Each of the regional winners are getting a pizza party and tour of a local power plant as well. Prizes are provided with funding from the 14 partners.
